
CP Monday Agbonika, commissioner of police, Edos State has assured the people of the state especially those in Uromi, the headquarter of Esan North East LGA that there should be no cause for alarm over the recent incident in the area.
He said the situation which already has the full attention of Gov Monday Okpebholo and his counterpart in Kano state is currently receiving adequate support inorder to settle completely those affected.
Agbonika gave the remark on Thursday while briefing Journalists in Benin City the state capital when he paid a familiarisation visit to secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, during their monthly congress.
He informed journalists present at the congress that the recent visit of Gov Okpebholo and the Deputy Governor of Kano state to Uromi where they meant with concerned stakeholders was timely, over the killing of 16 hunters and the earlier visit of Edo state governor to the family of the deceased in Kano.
According to the commissioner, in the next three months Edo will be different from the present state of crime involvement. I have a mandate of making the state safer for all and I also have the support of the governor and every other well meaning Edolites to ensure that the entire state is peaceful and crime free.
“The communities should be ready to work with the police, if there are areas we are not working well even you the press should let us know.
“We are here to work and not to extort anybody. I’m pushing out all the police personnel, we must all work for a crime free Edo state. If anyone has useful information, they should let us know.
Reacting to the submission of the commissioner of police, the state council chairman of Edo NUJ, Festus Alenkhe advised CP Agbonika on the need to meet with traditional rulers and other key stakeholders for positive oriented outcome and assured him of media support whenever the need arises.
The commissioner of police was accompanied by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, CSP Yamu and his 2ic.
