Edo State government has appealed to parents and guidance at all levels to prioritise the safety of their children, wards and those left under their care.
The government said everyone in authority must ensure that vulnerable children continue to receive the care, protection and support they deserve.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Eugenia Abdallah during capacity building for stakeholders on the implementation of guidelines for alternative care for children in Edo State said, children’s impact depends entirely on guidance ability to put them into good practice with consistency, coordination and accountability.
According to Abdallah who was represented by the permanent secretary, Mrs Joy Ihesieken; the two days stakeholders engagement is focused on critical areas such as effective gatekeeping case management, strengthening family and community-based care, enforcing minimum standard in childcare institutions and establishing robust monitoring and reporting systems’
She applauded SOS children’s village for joining forces with the government in practical steps to ensuring that every placement is necessary, suitable and in the best interest of the child.
‘As a ministry we remain committed to providing leadership and oversight, but the success of this work requires the collaboration of all stakeholders present to play an indispensable role in ensuring quality alternative care.
She encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the workshop as shared commitment to protecting the right and wellbeing of every child.
