Ahead of the listing of campaign ban by INEC, the chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State council, Mr. Festus Alenkhe has advised practicing journalists in the state to stick to the ethnics of the profession and be apolitical in their reportage.
INEC will officially lift ban on political campaigns regarding the September governorship election on the 24th of April, 2024.
Alenkhe in a statement personally signed and made available to DAILYFLASH in Benin city, the state capital.
According to him; to avoid legal pitfall journalists must stick to the ethnic guiding the profession.

“I humbly advise all practicing Journalists in Edo State to remain apolitical. Don’t allow yourself to be used by politicians. Report their campaign promises and statements only, that is why it is called ” CAMPAIGN “. Stay away from defamatory and blackmailing reports, a reminder that the courts will be waiting.
“Refer to the ethics of the journalism profession and be reminded of the Ethics/Disciplinary Committee of the NUJ. The statement added.
