The South East leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Friday endorsed the presidential and deputy presidential candidates of the Union, Alh. Comr. Alhassan Yahya and Mrs. Abimbola Oyetunde respectively, in the coming triennial delegates conference, ‘Owerri 2024’.
The leaders of the zone also extended same stamp of approval on the entire candidates contesting for various positions under the A+A campaign team.
Led by the Vice President of NUJ Zone C (South East), Sir Emmanuel Ifesinachi the zonal leaders comprising the Zonal Secretary, Eze Adiukwu; the chairmen and Secretaries of state councils in the zone as well as the national trustee and National Ex-Officio representing the zone, the leaders converged in Enugu to receive the A+A team ahead of state visits to the various councils.
After listening to the manifesto and answers provided by the Presidential candidate, Yahya and his his team, Imo state chairman of NUJ, Comr. Ifeanyi Nwanguma moved a motion for the zone to unanimously adopt and endorse the A+A candidates for the election.
The motion was seconded by Chairman of Ebonyi council, Comr. Sampson Nwafor.
Earlier, the leader of the A+A team and Presidential Candidate of NUJ, Comrade Yahya, who is also the current Deputy National President of NUJ, presented his manifesto to the leaders highlighting his vision and mission to transform the Union when elected president by God’s grace.
He stated that he would reintroduce a and reorganize insurance for journalists, establish online radio, restructure the IIJ, development NUJ Secretariat massive land for profitability, establish sachet and table water factory and work with Stakeholders to remove introduce the NUJ Enhancement Bill on the National Assembly, among other things.
In the presidential candidate’s entourage were the deputy presidential candidate, Oyetunde, the Director General of the A+Campaign Council, Comr. Demola Babalola, the Secretary General and spokesperson of the Campaign Council, Comrade Kenneth Ofoma and a member of the campaign council, Comr. Mrs Amaka Agbo, who is also the Vice President of NAWOJ, Zone C.
Also in attendance at the meeting were the chairmen of Anambra Council, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu; representative of Abia Council, Chukwuma Emele and Chairman of Enugu Council, Comr. Sam Udekwe.
The Secretaries of the state councils in the zone were also present.
