As the 2027 presidential elections gather momentum, high profile political interests groups in Nigeria have continued to assemble, but they face a torrential hurdle to cross.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the Judiciary, play a crucial role in ensuring the legitimacy of the elections in Nigeria.
Now, there’s a new force emerging that has joined the wheel of rigging cabals, the traditional institutions who are seen wearing their regalias in the morning and put on a political party’s attires at night.
However, their effectiveness has been questioned in all the elections in the past conducted, with allegations of bias and result manipulation made to favour the highest stakes.
If any contestant escapes the sledge hammer of the Electoral umpire, it may not escape the tribunal, appeal court and the deadliest of the cycle, the Supreme Court in the manipulations flow.
From Professor Jaga, Professor Mahmud Yakubu, and the man- made-holy-spirit called supreme court, they have made it almost impossible to trust INEC and any election results.
The only saving grace for any coalition to succeed when the unreliable INEC conducts a similar election would be, if the Electoral umpire and the Judiciary decided to put up a human face, only then, the votes will count.
Otherwise, the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the Judiciary may adversely affect the advancement of any coalition or assemblage except there are alternatives from the supreme most God that has positioned to counter a planned results infiltration.
Despite what seems to be a quaking move with their sole aim to oust the incumbent administration of President Bola Tinubu, there would be a lot to do to vacate a man who has been engrossed in Nigeria’s Political decision making.
God forbids in a country where the Chairman of illegality worldwide is the President of the Federation called Nigeria, that he would be defeated or vacated from office come 2027 except death or his decision.
However, the emergence of this new mega coalition in Nigeria’s political landscape though sent shockwaves through the country’s electoral commission, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, and the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress, APC, to some who have sold their souls to the innocent devil, it is just an educational exercise.
As the party prepares to make its debut in the political arena, party members cut across APC, PDP, NNPP, LP and others who are not satisfied and want to call the shots in the country are circling around the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
Resignations have started littering the political spaces with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, literally losing more of its high profile members to either the ruling All progressive Congress, APC, or others sitting on the fence waiting for the cabals’ directive.
The Peoples Democratic PDP, have been mostly affected because of the escalated fights between the FCT minister, Nyensom Wike’s faction and the Former Vice President Abubakar Atiku’s loyalists which have spilled across the states even to the grassroot politics.
Notable names, like the former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai CON, have also moved from the All Progressive Congress, APC, to pitch tent with SDP despite his former party having remained in power, since former president Muhammadu Buhari took over from PDP’s Goodluck Jonathan in 2016.
Mallam El-Rufai who cited loss of confidence in his former Party, APC, to provide dividends of democracy
Showed that there are more high-
profile politicians who would have also concluded plans to join the Social Democratic Party SDP, following his defection.
Also in the wave of the heat, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed was said to have tendered his resignation to the presidency two weeks ago but did not provide enough details for his decision, stating that it was on personal grounds.
Baba-Ahmed was appointed Special Adviser on Political Matters in the Office of Vice President Kashim Shettima in September 2023.
His role in the presidency attracted criticism at certain points.
Following his resignation, the former spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has come under fire over his decision.
These are obvious signs of the gathering of the clouds awaiting to cause a torrential down pour in the country.
In all of it, If we embark on combing the political forests, there would be categories of people, who are either undecided or decided.
For the decided who are waiting for a directive from the hill top, perhaps from the interest of the competitive forces, they see nothing good in the administrative policies of President Tinubu.
No matter his desire to create a pathfinder for development he would never make sense before them.
For the undecided, they are not sure if the coalition would sail, therefore hang their legs in between the fence.
They hold secret meetings, speak ills, sponsor all manners of arrangements, yet refuse to publicly declare their intentions.
Nigerians, faces significant challenges in the coming months over the choice of leadership in ensuring a smooth transition and compliance with electoral regulations.
The emergence of new merging groups in Nigeria’s political landscape has significant implications for the country’s democracy.
It could lead to increased competition, innovation, and accountability in the political process, but also poses challenges for INEC, the ruling party and other stakeholders.
The success of the new merging groups will depend on its ability to work within the existing electoral framework, while also bringing fresh ideas and perspectives to the political table.
