Nigeria’s secret police, the SSS on Sunday, arrested a lecturer at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Mr. Dennis Inakefe in a gestapo-styled operation.
Mr. Inakefe was picked up at about 5:00 AM in his Calabar residence with terrified neighbors shouted at by the operatives who were armed and numbered about six while their vehicles were parked outside.
According to CrossRiverWatch; they shouted at him not to try to escape as they had the entire compound surrounded,” one neighbor said.
Another stressed that they were asked not to come out after they ripped apart the protector at his residence and gained entrance into his house where they could hear him being beaten alongside a relative who lives with him, whose name was given as “Favor.”
When asked how they knew it was the SSS, one neighbor said they could identify an operative attached to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi.
This has led sources to say his arrest is connected with his recent comments on social media regarding the non-payrolling and non-payment of staff of the varsity engaged by the former Vice Chancellor, Professor Zana Akpagu.
Some of Mr. Inakefe’s posts have been critical of Professor Obi for not helping the situation.
“Rather than explore avenues of seeking and proffering solutions, she is perennially ready to shift the goal posts and put the blame on the past administration,” Inakefe wrote on his Facebook wall on August 1, 2022.
Earlier that day, he had apologized for a piece on the same issue bordering on Professor Obi’s relationship with veteran journalist, Dominic Kidzu and disclosed that threats had been made on his person.
