The Nigerian Navy has handed over 19 bags of suspected Cannabis Sativa recovered during a security operation in Anambra State to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.
The suspected illicit substances were recovered by personnel of the Forward Operating Base, Amiyi, during a routine patrol at Atani Abo Community.
According to the Navy, the patrol team noticed a vehicle allegedly conveying suspected Cannabis Sativa and immediately pursued it.

The suspect reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene, prompting security operatives to commence a follow-up operation.
The Navy said the subsequent operation led personnel to a warehouse allegedly used by the suspect to store illicit substances.
A thorough search of the facility reportedly resulted in the recovery of 19 bags of suspected Cannabis Sativa.
The Navy said the operation demonstrated the vigilance, professionalism and operational readiness of personnel attached to the Naval Outpost Onitsha in tackling the circulation of illicit substances.

Following the recovery, the Naval Outpost formally handed the suspected cannabis over to the NDLEA Onitsha Unit for further investigation and necessary action.
The Navy also requested the NDLEA to provide the base with the outcome of its investigation upon its completion.
