As part of its effort to reduce the activities of cybercrime offender also known as yahoo-yahoo, the acting zonal director, Benin Zonal command, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Mr Effa Okim has called on parents causion their children/wards to abstain from action capable of portraying the country in a negative position.
Mr Okim who was in the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, during a courtesy visit to members of the union in Benin city the state capital made this call why briefing them on the reason behind the rise of cybercrime in Nigeria especially in Edo State.
He said the commission is worried about the statistics of cybercrime and Edo is high on the table despite not being among the state with high internet penetration.
The EFCC boss in Benin blamed parents for not checking their children and guiding them against cybercrime and rituals.

According to him; cybercrime must be defeated in totality within the area of our coverage. This act has even led to some children resorting to using their parents for money rituals in the name of getting rich-quick syndrome with some of them underage.
Why assuring the union of a robust relationship, he enjoyed them to support the commission in its effort to curb the menace of cybercrime in the society which is presently reducing the culture and tradition that Africa is known for.
Mr Okim stressed that the commission stand on spraying of Naira note in public gatherings remains illegal and will not tolerate anyone.
He warned those involved to refrain from such saying that the offense is worse than cybercrime.

He commended the NUJ for sustaining the country’s democracy even in the face of tribal and religious differences and giving the commission positive image in the state.
On his part, Chairman of NUJ, Edo State Council, Comr Festus Alenkhe, JP assured Mr Okim that the union will do everything possible to give hundred percent cooperation in riding the society off crime and criminality especially as it concerns cybercrime.
