The Nigeria Election Debate Group (NEDG) has announced its commitment to collaborate with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, to host the 2024 Edo Governorship Debate scheduled for September 15, 2024, at the NUJ Press Centre in Benin City.
A statement signed by the Executive Secretary of NEDG, Mr. Eddie Emessiri, indicated that NEDG, in partnership with the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), is seeking Edo NUJ’s collaboration in hosting the 2024 Edo State Gubernatorial Debate.

This partnership, he said aims to enhance democratic engagement and provide the electorate with comprehensive information about the candidates’ policies and programs.
Mr. Emessiri emphasized the importance of a well-organized debate in deepening democratic values and promoting good governance in Nigeria.
“We are in the process of organizing a debate, but have learned that you (NUJ) have already set up a committee.

“We do not want to dissipate energies by hosting separate debates that could diminish the significance of the event,” he said.
He also noted that the event would offer the citizens of Edo State a valuable opportunity to assess the various candidates vying for the governorship position.
Mr. Emessiri stressed that the collaboration between NEDG, BON, and NUJ would bring numerous benefits to the state and its electorate.

According to him, the combined efforts will ensure a well-organized and widely viewed debate that will be broadcast nationwide, offering unparalleled exposure for the candidates and bringing national prominence to Edo State.
