The member representing Oredo East Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly and National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency, Hon. Frank Uyi Omosigho, has alleged the destruction of his campaign posters and billboards in parts of Oredo ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Omosigho made the allegation on Tuesday when members of OTUEDO N’OGBENBE and the Benin Journalists Forum paid him a familiarisation visit in Benin City.
According to the lawmaker, some of his campaign materials were removed from locations including Stadium Road, Oguola, Oliha, Five Junction and Ekenwan Road.
He also alleged that his campaign organisation had encountered difficulties securing spaces for campaign materials, adding that some posters were removed shortly after they were mounted.
Omosigho, however, urged his supporters to remain peaceful and avoid retaliation, stressing that the 2027 elections should not be characterised by thuggery, destruction of campaign materials or physical confrontation.
He called on youths across Edo State to reject political violence and urged journalists and other stakeholders to use their platforms to promote peaceful campaigns.
The lawmaker said political parties should focus on presenting their records, programmes and plans for improving the lives of the people.
Highlighting his constituency interventions, Omosigho said he facilitated the restoration of about 4,000 streetlights across the six wards in Oredo East and the provision of 11 transformers to communities including Stadium Road, Bowman Market and Oguola.
He added that he had organised town-hall meetings across the wards to identify the needs of residents, while other interventions included public toilets, educational assistance, a football tournament and a health insurance scheme for about 500 people.
On security, Omosigho said he sponsored a motion at the Edo State House of Assembly on killings and cult-related activities, which he said contributed to subsequent legislation addressing the issue.
He urged voters in Oredo to assess candidates based on their records and programmes rather than political violence or inducements.
Omosigho said his bid for the House of Representatives was aimed at consolidating his grassroots interventions and providing what he described as stronger representation for the people of Oredo Federal Constituency.
Earlier, the convener of OTUEDO N’OGBENBE, Comrade Edosa Okunbor, described the visit as a familiarisation meeting between members of the Benin Journalists Forum and the lawmaker.
Okunbor said the group was committed to promoting transparent and accountable governance, inclusive development and grassroots-oriented journalism across Edo South.
