The Immediate Past National President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comr. Chris Isiguzo has expressed deep sympathy with the national president of the union Comr. Alhassan Yahya and Gombe State council over the tragic loss of seven members of the union on Monday.
The now late members were returning from the wedding ceremony of one of their colleagues in Kaltungo town of Kaltungo LGA of the State.
In a statement, Isiguzo said he received with profound shock and deep sorrow the heartbreaking news of the death of seven members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in a ghastly motor accident in Gombe State.
Isiguzo who is the President, Congress of African Journalists (CAJ) said the tragedy is even more painful as the departed colleagues hailed from the Gombe State Council of our great Union, the home council of our National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya.
“On behalf of the Congress of African Journalists (CAJ), and in my personal capacity as the immediate past National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the National President, the National Officers, and the entire leadership and members of the Gombe State Council of the NUJ.
Meanwhile, the forum of Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants to the NUJ national president in their condolence message also sympathise with the union particularly Gombe State Council
They described the incident as a heartbreaking and painful loss to the NUJ family, the journalism profession, and the nation at large, noting that the deceased journalists were dedicated professionals who served with commitment, integrity, and courage by contributing significantly to the promotion of responsible journalism and democratic development in Gombe State and Nigeria.
According to Ismaila Saba Favu the forum called on journalists across the country to remain united and prayerful, urging members of the Union to honour the memories of the departed colleagues by upholding professionalism, ethical journalism, and dedication to duty and prayed for the repose of the departed souls as well as those who sustained injuries.
