The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man, Usman Abubakar, for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl in the Tsakanin Bayara area of Bauchi metropolis.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib.
According to the statement, the incident was reported at the ‘E’ Division, Yelwa, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, by the girl’s 48-year-old father.
The father alleged that on Sunday, August 24, at about 11am, the suspect lured his daughter to an uncompleted building in the area, where he allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
The police statement read in part, “The case was reported at ‘E’ Division Yelwa on Wednesday, 26th August, 2026 at about 1130hrs, by a 48-year-old father, of Tsakanin Bayara.
“He stated that on Sunday, 24th August, 2026 at about 1100hrs, one Usman Abubakar, a 70-year-old man, of the same address, allegedly lured his 8-year-old daughter to an uncompleted building in the area where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.”
Habib said following the report, operatives of the division immediately arrested the suspect.
He added that during interrogation, the suspect onfessed to the offence.
The PPRO further disclosed that the victim was taken to the Police Clinic for medical examination and treatment.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged offence and assured the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
Aliyu also directed that the suspect be charged to court in accordance with the law upon completion of the investigation.
The command said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for discreet investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, the police reiterated zero tolerance for sexual violence and child abuse, urging parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
