Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intensified their nationwide operations against illicit drug trafficking, recording seizures and arrests in Ondo State and several other parts of Nigeria.
The latest operations, announced on Sunday, September 20, involved the interception of consignments of suspected illicit drugs and the arrest of individuals allegedly connected to their transportation and distribution.
In Ondo State, NDLEA operatives carried out operations targeting the movement and distribution of cannabis and other illicit substances.
The agency said the operations formed part of its continuing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent illicit substances from reaching communities.
The NDLEA also reported significant seizures in other states during the period under review, including consignments of cannabis recovered during intelligence-led operations.
According to the agency, some suspects were arrested during the operations and are currently assisting investigators as enquiries continue into the sources and intended destinations of the seized substances.
The latest seizures form part of the agency’s broader nationwide campaign against illicit drug trafficking, with operatives conducting interdiction operations along major transport routes and at locations suspected to be used for the storage and distribution of narcotics.
The agency said investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals who may be connected to the suspected trafficking networks.
The NDLEA has repeatedly urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist law-enforcement agencies in identifying locations used for the production, storage or distribution of illicit drugs.
Authorities say the latest operations demonstrate the continued focus on intelligence-led enforcement aimed at disrupting the supply chain of illicit drugs across Nigeria.
