The Edo State Signage and Advertising Regulatory Agency has removed campaign materials bearing the images of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from a billboard at Stadium Road Junction, along Ekenwan Road in Benin City.
The development occurred on Wednesday, October 7, after officials of the agency reportedly returned to the location with a task force to remove the campaign materials. An earlier attempt to take them down had reportedly been resisted by some residents at the location.
According to reports, the officials later returned in about three Sienna vehicles and removed the materials from the billboard.
The action has generated political reactions in the state. Frank Uyi Omosigho, who represents Oredo East Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly and is also the NDC candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency in the 2027 elections, condemned the removal.
Omosigho described the development as an escalation of what he alleged was a pattern of attacks against campaign materials belonging to the party.
The incident comes as political activities continue to increase across Edo State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with different political parties intensifying their campaigns and mobilisation efforts.
