
Less than two weeks into the assumption of office as the commissioner of police in Edo state, CP Monday Agbonika and his officers have rescued ten students from kidnappers.
The students who were rescued at the border between Edo and Ondo States were on their way to Backcock University for the annual GYC Africa conference on the 16 of April 2025.

According to the police public relations officer, PPRO, CSP, Moses Joel Yamu, in a statement made available to Daily-Flash; on receipt of the ugly incident, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika immediately deployed operatives of the Ohosu Division, IRT, tactical teams alongside vigilantes and hunters into the bushes for possible rescue of the victims and arrest of suspects.

He said during the operation, operatives engaged in a gun duel with the kidnappers and in the process, one of the kidnappers was neutralised, while others escaped with bullet wounds.
“The operatives who were cautious of avoiding collateral damages as the kidnappers used the victims as human shields proved resilient, though one of our officers sustained gunshot injury and is currently responding to treatment.
“This rescue effort eventually paid off as the ten (10) kidnapped students comprising eight (8) male and (2) females were released due to intense pressure mounted on them.

Meanwhile, two suspected armed robbers, identified as Binigolo Ebimene and Mathew Denwei 25yrs and 27yrs respectively were also arrested following a distress call of motorcycle and phones snatching at Malim Camp Gbelebu community in Ovia South West LGA.
A preliminary investigation revealed that these suspects arrested with a locally made pistol and two (2) headlamps have been terrorising farmers and commuters in the axis of the State. The suspects have confessed to the crime and would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
CP Agbonika warned criminals in Edo state to relocate saying there is no hiding place for them.
They either repent, relocate or face the consequences. And further reassured the good people of the State to shun crime and report suspicious persons, movement, or objects to the Police immediately, Yamu added.
