The Edo State House of Assembly has adopted a resolution urging the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, to refrain from imposing a caretaker committee on the Edo State chapter of the union.
The resolution was passed during a plenary session on Tuesday, following a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Jonathan Ihama Ibhamawu.
Hon. Ibhamawu expressed concerns that the NLC President’s alleged plan to effect a leadership change in the state chapter could destabilize the industrial peace and harmony currently enjoyed in Edo State.
Contributing to the debate, Hon. Adeh Isibor described the alleged plan as an attempt to politicize the labour union, emphasizing the need to maintain the independence of the movement.
Hon. Edobor Uzamere also spoke, urging the NLC National President to allow peace to reign in the state chapter and exercise restraint to preserve industrial stability.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chief Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku, ruled that the Edo State Government and relevant agencies should continue to recognize the leadership of Comrade Bernard Egwakhide until the expiration of his tenure.
In other business, the House passed a Bill for a Law to Establish the Edo State Parks and Gardens Agency, 2025, after a clause-by-clause consideration.
The Speaker directed the Clerk to forward clean copies of the Bill to the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for assent.
Additionally, the House committed a petition from civil society groups, led by Comrade Kola Edokpayi, to the House Committee on Public Petitions for further consideration.
The petition highlighted concerns about the reawakening of CDAS and its potential impact on sustainable development in Edo State.
The House adjourned its sitting to Wednesday, August 27, 2025, following a motion moved by Hon. Frank Uyi Omosigho and seconded by Hon. Abdul Ganiyu Akokhia.
