The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a welder for illegal possession of a firearm in Uso, Owo Local Government Area, following intelligence that he was fabricating a gun in his workshop.
The suspect was identified as Andy Giwa, a welder operating on Imogun Street, Uso in Owo LGA.
According to the Ondo Police Command, the arrest was made on Thursday, September 11, 2026, after the police received credible intelligence that Giwa was working on a firearm inside his workshop.
Operatives were deployed to the location and a locally fabricated pistol was recovered from the workshop.
During interrogation, the suspect told police that the firearm did not belong to him. He claimed it belonged to another person who had brought it to his shop, and that person is now at large.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for thorough investigation.
CP Ohagwu commended the informant whose tip led to the arrest and urged residents to continue to give useful information to the police to fight crime in the state.
The command also warned artisans and welders against engaging in illegal fabrication of firearms, stating that anyone caught will face the full weight of the law.
