Member,Board of Trustee representing the South South Zone of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde, has officially declared her intention to vie for the position of the Union’s Deputy National President.
Dr. Abimbola, who is the General Manager, Radio Nigeria Bronze FM 101.5, Benin City, the Edo State capital, made the declaration Tuesday while presenting her Nomination of interest Form to the chairman and members of the state Council.
Addressing journalists, she assured that she will continue to play a major role to ensure the Union succeeds with her wealth of experience on Union matters and lofty managerial ideas.
According to her, after listening to calls from various quarters, it was time to put the Union first.
“I have held various positions in the Union before now, I was chairman FRCN Lagos Chapel, Secretary Lagos Council, Special adviser to the NUJ President, as well as serving in various committees of the union.
I also fought for the weighing allowance now being enjoyed by State and Federal media workers, while she was a Chapel Chairman.

“Contesting the position of the Deputy National Presidency at this time is timely with my experience.
“Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, who is cintesting for the position of the presidency and I are very passionate about making the big difference in our union”
“As a matter of reality, Edo council purchased this nomination form for me and is testament to positive impact you all have seen in me”
Reacting, the chairman of Edo NUJ Comrade Festus Alenkhe commended the Deputy National presidential hopeful’s bold step to vie for the post, even as a woman, and assured that the Edo council will support her ambition to emerge the first female Deputy President of the union without fear.
Some leaders of the council who were present including former chairman, comrade Ralph Okhiria, former Secretary of Council, Titus Aigbe,Heads of Media, Chairperson Edo Nawoj, Adesuwa Ehinmua,and the chief of staff to NAWOJ national president, Ijeoma Umeh, amongst others, all assured of their support to ensure she comes out victorious.
A leading Governorship candidate in Edo election, Mrs Ndidi Key of Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, also admonished journalists in Nigeria to stand solidly behind the her candidacy.
The NUJ Delegates Conference comes up on the 26th of November 2024, in Owerri, Imo state, where new Executives of the union will be elected.
