
As part of her Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Edo State Branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has offered free medical services to numerous media professionals in the state.
The free medical outreach is part of activities to mark the opening ceremony for the Edo NMA’s 2025 Physicians’ Week.
Dr. Oamen John-Blaze Osezua, Deputy Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association Edo State Branch, highlighted the importance of the healthcare outreach for journalists while emphasizing the crucial synergy between the NMA and the media.
He noted that the free medical outreach was conceived to bolster the wellbeing of media practitioners, stressing that journalists were indispensable partners of the NMA.
According to him, the NMA recognizes the pivotal function of the media in reporting activities within the health sector.
The 2025 Physicians’ Week is themed “Healthcare as a Value Chain: Building Efficiency from Policy to Patient.”
Dr. Oamen, who is also the Chairman of the local Organizing Committee for the 2025 Physicians’ Week of the Edo NMA appreciated the media practitioners cut across the print and broadcast media for the large turnout during the free medical outreach.
Medical screening carried out
on media practitioners by the NMA during the Physicians’ Week in Edo State include blood pressure testing, blood sugar, PSA testing, and general consultation for patients to also see doctors.
On his part, Edo NUJ Chairman, Comrade Festus Alenkhe appreciated journalists for taking time to attend the free medical outreach program and the NMA for the dedication to the journalists’ health needs in the state.
Alenkhe appealed to journalists to present themselves for medical checks and screening, noting that the alarming cases of sudden deaths in the state and country are worrisome.
