The Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has adopted Comrade Yahya Alhassan and Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde as the President and Deputy National President candidates of the union ahead of November 27 union election slated for Owerri, Imo State.
In a motion moved by a former Secretary of Lagos State Council, Comrade Abiodun Akinbusuyi and seconded by Odunayo David of the Correspondents Chapel of Lagos State Council, the council gave a nod to the duo for the position.
Alhassan, the Current Deputy National President pledged to give priority attention to the welfare of journalists and as well ensure that journalists are registered into health insurance scheme if elected as president of NUJ.

He said that the weigh-in allowance for journalists would be enhanced as he did it in Gombe State when he was chairman of the council.
Comrade Alhassan explained that if elected, he would sponsor a bill to the National Assembly for salary enhancement so as to attract a standard salary structure for media workers across Nigeria.
He also assured journalists of adequate protection in the course of their lawful duty to inform, educate and entertain the public of sensitive and national issues that affect the people of the country.
On her part, the National Deputy Presidential candidate who is unopposed, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde said she would give the needed support to the president to bring in more development and people oriented policies that would ensure the welfare of journalists across the country.

Dr. Oyetunde recounted her antecedents in various positions she has held at the union level and how she fought for the good of the union, promising to continue on that pathway when the administration kicks-off.
She appealed to journalists in the Lagos Council to vote massively for comrade Yahya Alhassan to become president of NUJ so as to steer the union to the path of higher progress.
The Chairman, Lagos State Council, comrade Adeleye Ajayi, said the council would give it full support to the emergence of Comrade Alhassan and Comrade Oyetunde as president and Deputy respectively.
Comrade Ajayi noted that the combination is a sign that NUJ is heading to progressive path hence, the council would always be on the path of progressives.
