Students of Nigerian universities have been charged to take active part in international conferences as a way to broaden their academic and employability horizon with a view to making them major players in the global economy.
The Vice Chancellor, Igbinedion University Prof Ikechukwu Ezemoye gave this charge at a one-day Students Institutionalization workshop tagged ‘change the world model’ held at the University.

Prof Ezemonye who stressed the immense benefits derivable from exposing undergraduates to international best practices noted that the University will sustain its programme in that direction.
“This university has for a long time placed greater premium on exposing her undergraduates to opportnities out there in academics and industry to prepare them to be major players in the global educational space.
“The University’s master class concept is designed to get experts to talk to students on industry, career and investment as a way of exposing them to international skills and programmes.

“What we are doing is to prepare you for the future. It is a virtual programme which internationalises the career desire of our students. So we want to expose our students to international skills
acquisition.
“So if any of those skills are introduced to your programme, please embrace them, they are part of our Internationalisation of students programme .
“I’m using this opportunity to introduce you to America window platform being hosted here. That window has trained over 11,000 participants, many of whom have been given scholarship to study in the United State of America.
In his presentation via zoom, the guest speaker Alassandro Dimauta, the executive director and project Manager of Associazone Diplomatici said conferences are platforms for opportunities.
Dimauta said “we are working with universities around the world to make sure that they see possibilities outside the shores of their countries.
“Through the Change the World Model United Nations Academy, a global platform where students come together to internationalise and gain opportunities, we have trained quite a number of students globally.
“Annually, we graduate more than 50,000 students through conferences that are related to academic fields,” he said.
In their separate presentation, Queen Esther Egbumukei and Dr Uche Harmony Ibezie both alumnus of Igbinedion University advised the participants to take more that passive interest in students Internationalization programmes.
While Egbumukei harped on the need for students to believe in their abilities to take on the world by growing their individual skills, Dr Ibezie told his audience that students Internationalization begins locally through student’s self development efforts.
Queen Esther Egbumukei whose paper centred on the Change the World Model United Nations Academy said the UN Model is designed to expose students to learn new culture, diplomacy, international relations; in addition to developing deeper understanding of current world issues to be relevant in global scheme of things.
