
As part of ways to achieving a colourful, memorable and people centred anniversary, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya, has inaugurated a crack nine person committee to oversee the planning of the union’s 70th anniversary celebration.
A statement issued by the National Secretary of the union, Achike Chude, said the nine-person committee is headed by the Deputy President of the union, Dr Abimbola Oyetunde, while Comrade Abdulkareem Haruna, Borno Chairman as Secretary.
Other members of the committee included: Comrade Donald Dedan, Adamawa Chairman;
Comrade Okechukwu Nwanguma, Imo Chairman; Comrade Ademola Babalola, Oyo Chairman; Comrade Abdulai Sulaiman, Kano Chairman; Comrade Amos Etuk, Akwa Ibom Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, Ogun Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike,FCT Chairperson.

According to the National Secretary of the union in the statement said the president’s careful selection of the calibre of persons was an indication that he (president) was “ready to pull out all the stops to ensure the fulfillment of his promise that the celebration would be one that would not be forgotten in a hurry.”
He stressed that the highpoints of the celebration would be a showcase of the growth and dynamism, challenges and successes of the union from inception till date.
He pledged that the
would be “people-centric and concentrate on all those in the various leadership and membership structures of the union that contributed to making her what she is today.”
“In the body languages of the committee members and their responses were indicators of the outcome of the work of the committee, then we can say with all confidence that the Dr Abimbola led committee will fulfill its mandate bounteously,” the statement added.
In her response, chairperson of the committee who is also the Deputy President of the union, while stating that they had a two month window to accomplish the task, urged everyone to brace up for the work ahead.
