…commends Okpebholo, NDDC over development
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics chapter of Edo State Polytechnic, has commended the Edo state government and the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for the renewed attention being given to the institution.
The union particularly praised Governor Monday Okpebholo for the swift takeover of salary payments for staff of the institution, describing the development as unprecedented.
In a communiqué issued after an emergency congress held at the institution’s main campus in Usen and made available to DAILY-FLASH as signed by Comr Andrew Aghahowa and Shola Iyahen, the chapter chairman and secretary respectively, ASUP said members of the polytechnic community were pleasantly surprised by the speed with which the governor integrated the institution’s salary structure into the Edo state government payroll system.
The union stated that the action demonstrated the governor’s commitment and love for the institution, noting that the development had brought relief and renewed confidence among staff members.
ASUP also applauded the ongoing construction of the internal road network within the campus by the NDDC, saying the institution had never experienced such level of attention in recent times.
“We are glad that our school has caught the attention of the governor and the NDDC, with the construction of the internal road network. It has never been this good,” the communiqué stated.
The congress further resolved that a letter of appreciation and a vote of confidence be passed on the management of the polytechnic led by the Rector, Nosakhare Liberty Arodoye.
According to the union, the vote of confidence would further encourage the rector to sustain his developmental initiatives in the institution.
ASUP noted that the administration of Arodoye had brought about visible transformation in the polytechnic, adding that several departments were now adequately prepared for full accreditation, particularly at the Higher National Diploma (HND) level.
The union said practical development was now evident across the campus, stressing that the institution had witnessed significant turnaround under the current management.
Meanwhile, ASUP also called on the federal government to urgently address the growing insecurity in the country, warning that the safety of lives and property had become increasingly worrisome.
The union urged relevant authorities to prioritise security across the country in order to guarantee peace and stability necessary for national development.
