The Credentials Committee for the upcoming election of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has denied that one of its members resigned.
The committee said this in a statement by its Chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, and Secretary, Comrade Ademu Seidu, on Monday.
The committee spoke following what it described as “a misleading report” that some members of the NUJ have been circulating on social media.
The report was titled: “NUJ 2024 Triennial Credentials Committee in Quagmire As Member Resigns In Protest Over Manipulation.”
The statement by Ikeogwu and Seidu also denied the claim that the committee has been taking directives from the President of the NUJ, Comrade Chris Isiguzo.
It said: “We would have ordinarily ignored the writer of such frivolous report and their co-travellers but on a second thought decided to reply to correct the impression already in town.

“We wish to categorical say that the committee as created by the National Executive Council (NEC) is intact. No member resigned.
“The resignation as purportedly reported remains an imagination of the authors who had wished the committee never succeeded.
“To their dismay, the committee work as one united entity, focused, committed and dedicated to delivering a credible, transparent and fair election.
“The outcome of the exercise so far, has remain a surprise to speculators who had prophesied dooms day and even predicted disqualification of certain candidates unjustifiably.
“Let it be also known that the Committee has so far carried its assignment independently. There has never been a time the President, Dr. Chris Isiguzo or the National Secretariat had dictated to the committee on what to do.
“While calling members of our great union and the general public to discountenance the report, we once again assure of our determination to deliver on the mandate before the committee.”.
